Band Bio
Muthaland, a Detroit based R&B and Funk band, pays tribute to some of the greatest and most influential artist of all time. Some of those legendary performers include James Brown, The Commodores, Sly & The Family Stone, Rick James, Cameo, The Ohio Players, Rose Royce, Kool & The Gang, Prince, and Janet Jackson amongst many others.
Established in January 2007, this dynamic six piece band has over 100 years of experience collectively.
Muthaland is fronted by the powerful vocals of the dramatic and outrageous William "The Giff" Gifford. Giff's talents extend beyond his wide vocal range as his contributions to the band also include percussion, keyboard, and guitar. Giff's natural ability to interact with any crowd proves to be both entertaining and humorous.
Muthaland is proud to introduce our newest member, vocalist/percussionist Stephanie Jackson. With years of experience, Stephanie is a trained musician with a jazz and classical back round. Stephanie also has had the great fortune of being influenced by her father, the late/great Pervis Jackson, one of the vocalist and founding members of the R&B group, The Spinners.
Jimmy "Fingers" LaCroix is considered to be one of Detroit's finest guitar players. Fingers displays tremendous discipline and versatility in his explosive, yet melodic leads and extraordinary rhythms. Fingers vocals help round out the funky sounds of Muthaland.
Mike "Dr. Funk" Yacoub displays the skills of a surgeon for Muthaland. Dr. Funk aids in rounding out the fullness of the band and can operate under the funkiest conditions with his keyboard, vocals and horn parts.
No funk band could be complete without a powerful rhythm section.
Michael "Mookie" Mathews provides a thunderous finger funkin, poppin and slappin bass one would expect to find in a funk band. In addition to backing vocals, Mookie provides management experience to the group.
Completion of the "groove section" can be found in the skilled drumming of Sean "Beefy" Simister. Beefy's precision on the skins make it easy to set the groove and further enhances the band with his vocal contributions. Beefy also brings production and management experience to the band.
